Assist our Fellow South Africans : Trying To Desperately to Stay out of South African Public Hospitals
Dear Friends,
The South African public hospital system is in crisis, and as a result in 2020 the SOSA Medical Project was created to address the immense costs of private medical aid for those without the funds.
This project pays towards the monthly premiums of a basic medical aid. While we are assisting over 50 individuals each month, we have over 75 applicants waiting for assistance. Many with chronic illnesses who are already receiving maximum support from several Jewish charities in South Africa. We are desperately short of funds needed to assist them to afford a basic medical aid.
This is a direct and urgent appeal to the Australian expat Jewish community to share in the challenges facing us and to contribute a minimum of AUD 67,500 in total over the next 12 months via tax deductible donations (Chai Foundation, Melbourne). This is half the amount needed to assist 75 worthy cases with a basic medical aid for a year. The balance to be raised from within South Africa.

Husband been unemployed for a long time and suffers from severe mental illness. Receives financial assistance from various Jewish organisations. Access to a private hospital imperative.
Rivkah [name changed] in her mid 60’s. She is divorced. High blood pressure. Looks after aged mother. No work. Assisted by her daughter as far as possible. Scared of public hospitalisation.
AUD 150 per month will ensure a needy Jew gets a basic medical aid hospital plan.
